

About Maharajgunj Medical Campus
Maharajgunj Medical Campus (MMC), established in 1972 (2029 BS) under Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Medicine (IoM), is Nepal’s pioneering medical education institution, evolving from the “Auxiliary Health Workers’ School” to the first full-fledged medical school integrated with a teaching hospital, the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH). Located in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, MMC has played a pivotal role in producing competent and diverse human resources for health, ranging from primary health care workers to super-specialist doctors. Over five decades, it has trained thousands of graduates in medical, dental, and allied health sciences, contributing significantly to healthcare nationally and internationally. MMC offers a wide range of programs including undergraduate courses such as MBBS, BDS, BSc Medical Laboratory Technology, BSc Medical Imaging Technology, Bachelor in Optometry, Bachelor in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Bachelor in Pharmacy, and Bachelor in Perfusion Technology; postgraduate programs including MD, MS, MDS, MSc, and MPhil; and super-specialty courses like DM and MCh in various disciplines. The campus emphasizes quality education through a merit-based admission system requiring entrance exams conducted by the Institute of Medicine and the Medical Education Commission, alongside counseling and computer-based matching systems. MMC’s facilities include a modern library with international journals, computer stations with high-speed internet, science laboratories, well-equipped classrooms, seminar halls, cafeterias, hostels for boys, girls, postgraduates, and international students, and extensive practical exposure through TUTH and other affiliated centers. The campus also provides scholarships for merit, need, diversity, subject-specific excellence, and performance-based achievements, ensuring access to education for deserving and underprivileged students. MMC is QAA and IQAC-certified, promoting interactive learning, practical training, and research opportunities. It gives me pleasure to welcome you to Maharajgunj Medical Campus. It is pioneer healthcare institution of Nepal and also constituent Campus of Tribhuvan University. It was established with aim to provide human resource in the country and to serve heathcare needs. It was promoted from auxilliary health care school to Campus status in 2029 B.S. It was known as Central Campus initially and trained in allied health science professionals. It has expanded after passing many stages from Central Campus to Maharajgunj Campus and finally a full fledged Maharajgunj Medical Campus.
