Career Options After Nursing in Nepal

Nursing is one of Nepal's most dynamic healthcare professions, currently undergoing a transformation driven by international demand and domestic healthcare expansion. Nepal has over 115,900 registered nurses with the Nepal Nursing Council (NNC), and the profession encompasses several entry points: PCL Nursing (3-year diploma), BSc Nursing (4-year degree), and Post-Basic BSc (for PCL graduates upgrading their qualification). The Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) remains widely available through campuses across the country, while BSc Nursing programs are increasingly preferred by students planning international careers.

Domestically, nurses are the backbone of Nepal's healthcare delivery system. Staff nurses work across government hospitals (Bir Hospital, TUTH, Patan Hospital, district hospitals), private hospitals (Grande, Norvic, Mediciti), community health centers, and NGO health programs. MSc Nursing and MN programs at Kathmandu University and BPKIHS prepare nurses for leadership, education, and advanced clinical practice. Nursing tutors at nursing campuses earn NPR 30,000–60,000 and provide an alternative to clinical practice for graduates who prefer education careers.
