As the head of the department (CDED), I take this opportunity to welcome all our faculties, students, collaborative partners and stakeholders who are contributing to the department in different programs in teacher education and pedagogy. Also, the CDED  Alumni who have graduated and serving society across the globe.

The Central Department of Education (CDED)  was established on 9  September 1956 as a College of Education with the aim of preparing trained teachers for the nation. After the establishment of Tribhuvan University in 1959 CDED was run under the faculty of Education Tribhuvan University with the specific purpose of evolving a humane learning society through the advancement of knowledge and becoming a centre of excellence in teacher education, educational planning, management and administration by promoting an advanced level of teaching, research and capacity building in national and global contexts.  At present, CDED has been conducting teaching, research and teacher training programs through sixteen subjects that focused on both content and pedagogy. The department has been carrying out a number of research works in collaborative mode with different universities, research institutions, and the Government of  Nepal. This department is the leading academic centre for educational leaders, managers, and teacher education professionals in the country.  At present, the department runs high-level teaching and research through sixteen subjects which are more enriched in contents and techniques. All our subjectwise departments are renowned for their excellence in education, research, and services.

The department is proud of having highly qualified faculty and staff in their field of expertise who are delivering the best education and research experience to our students. I am sure that our efforts to excel in the field of teacher education and higher-level research will continue with greater zeal and enthusiasm to build an ideal student’s ambition, and experience, and to be a pioneer in higher education. The department is bringing the best of international education to the TU sphere through the partnership with leading international universities, research institutions and academia. This gives us an international standard among the most recommended universities around the globe.
