The University Grants Commission (UGC) Nepal, established in 1993 under the UGC Act, is the apex body responsible for quality assurance, funding allocation, and policy coordination in Nepal's higher education sector. Understanding accreditation is critical for students choosing colleges and universities.

UGC's Role and Mandate
UGC Nepal serves three primary functions:

When browsing universities, pay attention to whether their affiliated colleges have undergone QAA. Not all affiliated colleges of a major university are necessarily accredited — accreditation is institution-specific, not automatic.
