Lalit Kala Campus, the constituent campus of Tribhuvan University, has been providing higher education (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in the genres of fine arts like painting, sculpture, graphic communication, music and dance. Despite the fact that the subjects are related to humanities, human values, beauty and aesthetics, they have technical, vocational and practical aspects. Once the students acquire skills and craftsmanship, and open the broaden horizon of critical thinking and creative possibilities through the study of art history, art theory and aesthetics, they can grab multiple opportunities in reality. The main objective of the campus is to produce self-dependent creative artists that are rooted to their tradition and native soil along with the awareness of recent trends of arts across the world.
Fine arts graduates can work in the field of graphic design, book and magazine illustration, advertisement agency, garden design, interior decoration, fashion design, pottery, ceramic industry, furniture industry, film industry, theatre, drama, musical concert, cultural programs, museum, art gallery, art studio, and art criticism. Senior students of the Bachelor level can produce their artworks which can be exhibited in the campus and sold to the art lovers. This can promote the concept of ‘learning and earning’ at the same time. This can be the source of income to the students, campus and teachers. The connection of education to life and reality motivates and encourages all the stakeholders of the campus for better performance. This can also be the movement of the campus from dependence on government fund toward self-dependence. Since these subjects are vocational, in the final year, as an intern, the students can go to their respective field and work there. The campus attempts for the job placement of the students before they are graduated. Lalit Kala Campus can be the model for other educational institution. The production of successful creative artists also contributes for the enhancement of our civilization, cultural heritage and humanities.
The campus has the following objectives:
To provide quality art education to the students involving them in learning the practical skills and theoretical knowledge along with traditional and local skills and recent trends and techniques across the world
To focus on “earning while learning”. In the appropriate mentorship, instruction and the supervision of the teachers, the students in Bachelor level 3rd year and 4th year can produce paintings, sculptures, visual arts, designs, artworks, and musical compositions that can be sold in the market. This contributes for the income of the students and the campus.
In the final year, to connect art students (potential artists) and artworks to the real life, society and industry through internship program. This assists for entrepreneurship and job placement of our graduates and contributes to address the unemployment problem.
To produce successful creative artists that contribute for the preservation and enhancement of the cultural heritage and humanities
To move toward self-dependence of the campus through internal income. Lalit Kala Campus can be the hub for creation, exhibition and sale of the artworks because the important resources like space for creation and exhibition (campus building), resource persons (teachers) and skilled artists (senior students) are within the campus.
Quality art education, learning and earning, students’ intern and placement in the society, reality and industry, and self-dependence of the Campus through internal income are the significant issues of the campus. The solidarity of the stakeholders gives strength to execute the plan of the organization. Working in the campus is an opportunity to serve the students and people.
After teaching the compulsory and core courses in the first year, students in second year are assigned to respective teachers on the basis of their interest. The teachers or the mentors teach the skills and techniques through demonstrations and guidance and lead the students to produce their own beautiful artworks in bachelor 3rd year and 4th year.
We attempt to collect, exhibit and sell the outstanding artworks of students and teachers giving focus to earning while learning and the movement toward self-dependence of the students and the campus. Close network and connection among, the campus, art galleries, museums, film industry, theatre, cultural bands, schools, graphic design firms and publishers assists for internship and placement of our students. Seeing our student self-dependent is a matter of great pleasure.
The campus at the center of Kathmandu city is the center of excellence and a hub for creation, exhibition and sale of artworks. Since we have public space in prime location, professors (experts) and students (artists), our cost of production of artworks is very low. As a result, the greater mass has access to our artworks. The change begins from the self. By providing tangible results, we attempt to gain the faith of the students, professors and the staff.
Through effective teaching, the students become skillful, productive and creative with national and international exposure in the field of art. The campus connects fine arts students to industry and real society for internship and job placement. The campus attempts to be self-dependent in financial aspect through the production, exhibition and sale of our students’ and teachers’ artworks in reasonable price.
