Its origins trace back to the Tri-Chandra Military Hospital, founded in 1925 AD, which was regarded as one of the most advanced hospitals of its era.

NAIHS is a non-for-profit endeavor of the Welfare Fund of the Nepali Army in the field of health professions' education. Under its two colleges (College of Medicine and College of Nursing),NAIHS currently caters five bachelor level programs(MBBS, BSc Nursing, BNS, BSc. MLTand BPH, and 21 masters level post-graduate programs (MD/MD/MN) in different areas of the medical field. Over the past twelve years, NAIHS has proven itself to be one of the premier institutes in the field of health professions' education by achieving excellent results in the TU University examinations. NAIHS will continue to strive for the best by adding new academic programs at the Bachelor's level (Bachelors of Dental Surgery,etc.), Postgraduate level (new MD/MS programs), and super-specialty level (DM/MCh programs) in the near future.
