Pokhara University (PU), established in 1997 under the Pokhara University Act, is headquartered in Pokhara, Kaski District. PU has grown to become Nepal's third-largest university, known particularly for its strength in management studies, tourism and hospitality education, and its consistent use of the semester system.

Faculties and Programs
PU operates through 4 faculties and multiple affiliated colleges:
1. Faculty of Management Studies: Offers BBA, MBA, BHM (Bachelor of Hotel Management), and MHM. PU's management programs are among the most popular in Nepal, particularly BHM for students pursuing careers in hotel management.
2. Faculty of Science and Technology: BE (civil, computer, electrical, electronics), BSc, and MSc programs.

Semester System
PU has consistently used the semester-based credit hour system since its establishment. The PU grading system uses a 4.0 GPA scale with internal assessments (40%) and final examinations (60%). This structure ensures regular evaluation and timely degree completion.

Tourism and Hospitality Strength
Located in Nepal's tourism capital, PU has a natural advantage in hospitality education. The BHM program is one of PU's flagship offerings, producing graduates who work in Nepal's hotel, trekking, and tourism industries. The university also conducts research in sustainable tourism development.
