+2 (Plus Two / Higher Secondary)

The "+2" or "Plus Two" level refers to Grades 11 and 12 of Nepal's formal education system — the two years of higher secondary education that immediately follow the glossary/see" class="text-blue-600 hover:underline">Secondary Education Examination (SEE). These two years are governed and certified by the glossary/neb" class="text-blue-600 hover:underline">National Examination Board (NEB). The +2 level is often also called the "Intermediate" level or "+2 Certificate level" and is a prerequisite for bachelor's degree enrollment in Nepal.

At the +2 level, students choose from four broad streams based on their SEE performance and interest: Science (with Biology or Mathematics groups), Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Education. The Science stream is the most competitive, often requiring stronger SEE grades. The stream chosen at +2 broadly influences what bachelor's programs a student can directly pursue — for example, Science (Biology group) is required for medical programs, while Science (Mathematics group) is needed for engineering.

The +2 program is typically two academic years long, with NEB conducting a national board examination at the end of Grade 12. This Grade 12 examination result is the primary academic credential for bachelor's degree enrollment at Nepali universities and is also used for international study applications.
