MD Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Three-year, full-time residency program under Tribhuvan University designed to produce specialists in obstetrics, gynaecology, and family planning, with the core aim of reducing maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality through advanced clinical, surgical, academic, and public-health competencies.
Program integrates obstetric and gynaecological clinical care, reproductive health, prenatal and postnatal management, emergency obstetrics, operative gynaecology, fetal–maternal medicine, infertility evaluation, oncology screening, family planning, epidemiology, and women’s health services. Training follows a rigorous hospital-based residency model with rotations, supervised procedures, ward management, labour-room duties, outpatient care, surgical exposure, and academic activities. Structure includes phased examinations, thesis development, log-book–based competencies, OSCE-based evaluations, and active participation in teaching, research, and reproductive-health program planning.

Rapti Academy of Health Sciences (RAHS) launched the MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology program in 2025 AD. The Medical Education Commission (MEC) has allocated two seats for admission in this program for the 2025 academic year.

A postgraduate program focused on comprehensive training in women’s reproductive health, pregnancy care, childbirth management, and gynecological disorders, designed to develop competent specialists capable of independent clinical practice.
A 3-year postgraduate medical program under Kathmandu University, delivered through its constituent and affiliated medical colleges. The course integrates clinical postings, surgical training, emergency obstetrics, gynecological procedures, and research methodology. Students train under MEC guidelines and must pass the national MECEE-PG entrance examination to qualify. The program prepares clinicians to diagnose, manage, and prevent disorders related to pregnancy, reproductive health, and female pelvic diseases.

MD Obstetrics & Gynaecology is a 3-year postgraduate program focused on reproductive health, maternal and neonatal care, and gynecological surgery, preparing specialists for clinical practice, research, and leadership in women’s health.

Description:
The program trains physicians to diagnose and manage obstetric, gynecological, and neonatal conditions across all levels of healthcare. Emphasis is placed on reducing maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, providing evidence-based care, teaching junior staff, conducting research, and understanding national health policies, medicolegal aspects, and leadership in reproductive health services. Training is conducted in Maternity Hospital, Thapathali, Patan Hospital, and affiliated centers.
