MD Ophthalmology

Three-year, full-time residency program under Tribhuvan University designed to produce clinically competent, ethically grounded ophthalmologists capable of diagnosing, treating, operating on, and managing a full spectrum of ophthalmic conditions.
Training is fully residential and structured around progressive clinical responsibility. Residents gain competence in medical and surgical ophthalmology, ophthalmic emergencies, community eye-care planning, superspecialty assistance, research, and scientific communication. Clinical rotations occur at BP Koirala Lions Centre for Ophthalmic Studies, TU Teaching Hospital, and regional eye centers. Learning emphasizes hands-on patient care, case discussions, minimal formal lectures, and guided self-directed study. Thesis work is compulsory, and final eligibility depends on satisfactory completion and approval of the dissertation. Evaluation includes both formative (logbook-based, every six months) and summative (theory, clinical exam, viva, OSCE).

MD Ophthalmology is a 3-year postgraduate program that trains physicians to diagnose, manage, and surgically treat eye disorders, with emphasis on ocular emergencies, community eye care, and academic leadership in ophthalmology.
