MD Psychiatry

Three-year, full-time residential MD program under Tribhuvan University designed to produce psychiatrists capable of independently diagnosing, treating, and managing all categories of mental health conditions in Nepal’s clinical and community settings.
Advanced clinical residency with comprehensive exposure to general psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, addiction, forensic psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, psychopharmacology, neurology, and community mental health. Training includes continuous ward duties, case management, emergency psychiatry, rotations, academic seminars, and thesis work. Each resident is guided by a preceptor. Competency development targets independent practice, service organization, multidisciplinary teamwork, mental health program leadership, and adherence to national health-system priorities.

MD Psychiatry is a 3-year postgraduate program designed to train medical graduates in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental health disorders, equipping them for clinical practice, research, and academic roles in psychiatry.
