Equivalence

Equivalence is the formal recognition process by which an authority in Nepal — primarily the glossary/ugc" class="text-blue-600 hover:underline">University Grants Commission (UGC) or the glossary/neb" class="text-blue-600 hover:underline">National Examination Board (NEB) — certifies that a foreign academic qualification is equivalent to a specific Nepali credential. This is essential for Nepali students who have studied abroad and wish to return for further studies or employment in Nepal, as well as for foreign students wishing to enroll in Nepali universities.

At the school level, students who have completed foreign secondary school programs (such as IGCSE, IB, A-levels, or Indian CBSE/ISC) must obtain an NEB equivalence certificate to enroll in Nepali higher secondary or bachelor's programs. At the university level, students with foreign bachelor's or master's degrees must obtain a UGC equivalence certificate to pursue graduate programs or be considered for academic and government positions in Nepal.
